squiggli Get a free API key
Getting started

Quickstart

Get a key, send a test document, sign it, and get the signed PDF back. About five minutes.

  1. Get an API key

    Sign up. You get a test key (sq_test_...) on the welcome screen, shown once. Keep it in an environment variable, never in your code:

    bash
    export SQUIGGLI_API_KEY=sq_test_...

    Your first 15 live documents are free, and test documents are always free.

  2. Send a document

    Send any PDF, base64-encoded. Leave out fields and squiggli adds a signature page for each signer. delivery: "link" skips the email and returns a signing link, which is handy while you try things out.

    bash
    curl https://squiggli.billy-965.workers.dev/v1/envelopes \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $SQUIGGLI_API_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d "{
        \"title\": \"My first envelope\",
        \"documents\": [{ \"file_base64\": \"$(base64 < contract.pdf | tr -d '\n')\" }],
        \"signers\": [{ \"name\": \"Ava Chen\", \"delivery\": \"link\" }],
        \"send\": true
      }"

    The response is the whole envelope. Note its id and the signer's signing_url:

    json
    {
      "id": "env_mw6bdnhw48572v054y",
      "object": "envelope",
      "status": "sent",
      "test": true,
      "signers": [{
        "id": "sgn_mw6bdnj1q2...",
        "name": "Ava Chen",
        "status": "sent",
        "signing_url": "https://squiggli.billy-965.workers.dev/s/sgn_mw6bdnj1q2....4f1c?l=lnk_..."
      }]
    }
  3. Sign it

    Open the signing_url in a browser. You'll see the PDF with a signature page at the end. Draw or type a signature, tick the agreement, and select Sign.

  4. Check the status

    bash
    curl https://squiggli.billy-965.workers.dev/v1/envelopes/env_mw6bdnhw48572v054y \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $SQUIGGLI_API_KEY"

    status is now "signed", and files has links to the signed PDF and the completion certificate.

  5. Download the signed PDF

    bash
    curl -o signed.pdf https://squiggli.billy-965.workers.dev/v1/envelopes/env_mw6bdnhw48572v054y/signed.pdf \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $SQUIGGLI_API_KEY"

Next steps

  • Add a webhook so your app hears when documents are signed, instead of polling.
  • Make a template for documents you send often.
  • Connect your AI and let it do the integration for you.
  • When you're ready, make a live key under Settings, API keys. Live documents need a card in Kiewa once your 15 free ones are used.
